         John Tagliabue

John Tagliabue became a correspondent in the Paris bureau of The New York Times in October 1999. He had been a correspondent in the Rome bureau since September 1992. Previously he served as bureau chief for the Berlin bureau since September 1990. Before that, he was bureau chief for the Warsaw bureau from August 1987 to September 1990, correspondent for the Rome bureau from April 1985 to August 1987. He began his career at The Times as a correspondent for the Bonn bureau in April 1980. Prior to joining The Times, Mr. Tagliabue was a correspondent for The Baltimore Sun from 1977 to 1980. He was a research assistant for the Institute for Medieval Latin Studies at the University of Bonn, Germany from 1971 to 1977. Born in Jersey City, N.J., on March 22, 1942, Mr. Tagliabue received a B.A. degree in classical studies from Saint Peter's College, Jersey City, in 1967. He received an M.A. degree in classical studies from the University of Bonn in 1971. He is the co-author of: Bibliografisches Repertorium fuer die lateinische Dichtung der Antike und des frueheren Mittelalters Goettingen, Germany, 1977. Mr. Tagliabue is married and has three children.
